Director - Mid Rise

Marcelo Graca

Architect OAA, AAA

Hola! I’m Marcelo, Director of Mid- and High-Rise Architecture at Q4 Architects. I started designing my first buildings on graph paper when I was 13 and dabbled in car design during high school, dreaming of becoming an F1 driver. After two years of studying business, I began my architectural studies at the National University of Buenos Aires in Argentina.

I moved to Canada in the early '80s and, after a few stints at various Toronto firms, I opened my own practice, specializing in residential and long-term care projects. I believe that architects inevitably leave a mark on the archaeology of civilization and that order and beauty can improve society.

My best work happens when there’s a two-way connection between the client and my team, where we bring the client into the design process. We keep egos in check, and everyone contributes equally.

I love walking into the studio and feeling the energy of the staff and their critical curiosity for deeper meanings and connections. Mentoring and sharing my experiences, both in life and professionally (they are one and the same in architecture!), is what I enjoy the most.

I’m a bit of an “artistic jock,” enjoying sports with a long history in competitive soccer (or should I say fútbol!) and volleyball. These days, my current passions are tennis and sailing. Fiction, film, installation art, and painting are my favorite artistic expressions.
